2 Corinthians 2:14-15 “But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,”
As believers in Christ, He is leading us in victory through this life. Have you ever seen the Olympians marching in their country’s athletic suits behind their flag, into the large stadium where crowds are watching? That is us! We believers come from around the world, united behind our Lord and Savior Jesus who humbled himself to become one of us, born low, revealed first to the low in society, lived a life of complete sacrifice, died a sinner’s death taking all the wrath of the world upon his shoulders, and then rose from the dead, returned to heaven to sit with His Father, fully victorious over death and life. It doesn’t matter what our earthly lives have been or what we’ve done. It doesn’t matter whether we are rich or poor, black or white, tall or short, thin or heavy. We are on the winning team, dressed smartly in our kingdom uniforms, heads held high in honor of the victory He won for us, one spirit marching in unity behind Jesus.
There’s an aroma that comes in with us as we march among the crowds – the aroma of love, of hope, of joy and of humility. It is a sweet smell, a freshness, almost intangible yet noticeable. Some in the crowd are drawn to the smell, and they get off their seats and walk down to follow us. Others in the crowd are repelled by the smell, and sneer as we walk past. It is sheer sillyness to them. We rejoice in those who join us, and are saddened for those who reject our Christ. But we continue forward, following behind our King who now carries the flag of victory.
No matter what is going on in your life today, this week, this month, this season, I pray we do not lose sight of this victory won for us. As we walk through misfortunes, let us keep our eyes on Jesus, our Victor. Let us walk in this march to the end of our days.
