Sun, May 13th Cultural Update with Pictures!
We arrived in Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines, a wonderful airline considered the larest and most respected airline of Africa. We walked out to palm trees, flowering bushes, sunshine and 70 degrees. As we left the airport looking a little lost, people offered to make calls for us using their cell phones so we could connect to our friends. Bob headed outside to the parking lot and met up with Sheleme, his coach with whom he has been working over Skype for over 2 years. This sweet young man of 32 handed Jeanne a bouquet of roses as a welcome. Sheleme has a profoundly deep faith along with excellent negotiating skills, discipline and passion for soccer. He is wholly committed to sharing God's love and power.
We piled into a small taxi, and headed into the city of Addis Ababa. The city is spread out like Toronto, and seemed to continue for miles with buildings in various stages of construction next to completed apartments or tall glass buildings. Downtown is bustling with cars, taxi vans and motorcycle taxis, and it took us about 30 minutes early Sunday morning to arrive at the facility where we would stay.
