Statement of Faith / Baptism / Receive Holy Spirit 7

No chart paper is needed. There is no drawing for these presentations.

This continues Day 2 of Receiving Jesus. After a person has elected Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior and has gone through repentance, the next steps include a public declaration that God exists, and that Jesus, the Son of God came to the earth, lived, and died a sacrificial death for the remission of our sins and to reconcile us back to God through the spirit. We will then have a water baptism, and a laying on of hands to receive the Holy Spirit.

If there is a pastor or bishop in the audience, you can plan ahead and have them conduct the ceremony. However, we recommend you have them follow this script.

Statement of Belief
(Have those people who are receiving Jesus stand either where they are or to come to the front of the class.) Repeat this statement aloud (translate if necessary).

“I believe that God exists and is a loving and just God. I believe God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to this earth 2,000 years ago.   He came to reconcile the world and every person back to God. He became the perfect sacrifice completing God’s just requirements for my sins. I believe, in and from my heart, Jesus died for my sins and was resurrected, overcoming death, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. I declare that He is Lord over my life, and declare my faith to Him.

Supporting Scripture
(This completes the requirement of Romans 10: 9-10 “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”)

Water Baptism
(The water baptism could be accomplished in several ways. We are usually limited to what can be done in terms of full bodily immersion, however, listed below are some options. Baptism is a public display of the persons regeneration from the old man into the new. (2 Corinthians 5:16-19). Here are some options. You can decide based on the number of people and available tools. Typically for large numbers of people this can be accomplished outdoors.

  • Bucket Baptism – The person sits in a chair, preferably outdoors, and a bucket of water is poured over their heads as you state the words below

  • Bottled Water over the head – This is a practical means of baptism. Using a bottle of water pour water over their heads as you state the words below.

  • River or Lake Baptism – if you are closely located to a body of water where a full immersion is possible, this is preferred. You will need to be prepared with clothing that you don’t mind getting wet.

There is not a specific prayer mentioned in the New Testament, but in Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells the disciples to go to every nation, and baptize people in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. So you can say,“I baptize you in the name of the Father, and Son, and Holy Spirit.”Here is a verse concerning baptism. You can read this out for the audience.

Supporting Scripture

  • Romans 6:3-4 “Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore, buried with Him by baptism into death in order that, just as Jesus was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”

  • Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Receive Holy Spirit
After the water Baptism, to complete the receiving of Jesus Christ, we now pray and lay our hands on you to receive the Holy Spirit.  (Have those who are receiving Jesus Christ today repeat the following prayer.)

Today, I ask in your name, Jesus, that you fill me with your Holy Spirit, baptize me in your fire, and to clothe me in your power. According to the promise in your Word, your answer is, “Yes,” and that therefore by faith I have received your Holy Spirit into my life today.

Supporting Scripture

  • Acts 1:5-8 For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized and empowered and united with the Holy Spirit, not long from now.” So when they had come together, they asked Him repeatedly, “Lord, are You at this time reestablishing the kingdom and restoring it to Israel?”  He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”

  • Acts 2:38 “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

  • Luke 11:13 - “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!””

  • Galatians 3:14 Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.
