Raising Future Disciples

As a coach, our role is, in-part, to shepherd our players and supporting coaches into the fullness of Christ. This square diagram reflects the process that Jesus used for developing the disciples. This same process is used by coaches to develop not only players, but aspiring coaches as well.
The Coach's responsibility is to guide and mentor the individual through this process. I Do/You Watch is the first step Jesus used to teach his disciples. At each corner there are stress points that may hamper continuing such as lack of confidence or lack of knowledge. The coach's role is to encourage, teach, pray, affirm, watch and demonstrate. The next step, I Do/You Help advances the individual's development by assisting, participating and experiencing without the responsibility of the result. You Do/I Help furthers the experience allowing the individual to take on more responsibility and growth. Finally, You Do/I Watch is the final phase where the individual is fully authorized to execute without assistance.
Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Matthew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
1 Corinthians 11:1
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
